Liberty Street Brewing Company Wins St. Patrick's Day Readers' Choice

Microbrewery in Plymouth's Old Village earns perfect score to win Patch Readers' Choice for best St. Patrick's Day destination.

The readers have spoken and was voted as the for best St. Patrick's Day destination.

A fixture in Plymouth's historic Old Village, Liberty Street Brewing Company offered a variety of Irish-style brews for the occasion.

Owner Joe Walters said he was surprised the brewery won, considering there's Irish-themed establishments nearby.

"Although we're not an Irish pub or anything, we do have a lot of Irish-style beers," Walters said. "We made some extra stouts and different kinds of beers made for St. Patrick's Day."

Among the brews: a special oak-aged batch of its popular Kilt Tilter and special versions of Rocket Porter and Burnout Stout.

The brewery started the day at 10 a.m., offering corned beef, cabbage, potatoes and soda bread served with a pint of one of the brewery's dark beers. A tour for Michigan Brewers' Guild Enthusiast members with beer tastings also took place and the brewery remained consistently full throughout the day, Walters said.

The company has big plans for 2012, as it has partnered with a larger facility in Brighton and has begun distribution to restaurants and bars throughout the state and soon will have bottles available at Michigan craft beer retailers. The brewery also has expanded its selections to include locally made wine and hard cider.

Liberty Street Brewing Company won with a perfect score of 20 out of 20 points. Points are assessed by leading our readers' poll and scoring the highest number of positive business reviews.
