Menchie's Serves Healthy to Indulgent Frozen Yogurt in Canton

Menchie's Frozen Yogurt, on Canton Center Road near Hanford Road, is quickly becoming a favorite spot in Canton.

Menchie's Frozen Yogurt's mission statement is "We make you smile," and co-owner of Menchie's in Canton Joyce Barszcz said she makes sure every visitor does.

Menchie's opened its Canton location, 6427 North Canton Center Road, in November. Barszcz said she and her husband and co-owner Mike, who have lived in Canton for 15 years, have gotten to know the regulars, whom she calls guests.

"They're not just customers. They're friends," she said. "They're guests in our yogurt bar and we treat them like that."

Megan Moncion, 17, student and member of the gymanstics team at Canton High School, visited Menchie's with five friends who heard about it in different ways - Twitter, Menchie's employees and classmates.

"We've been here more than 80 times. We come here like every day," she said.

Flavors and Toppings

Menchie's offers a different frozen yogurt experience. "Guests" fill their cups or fresh waffle bowls at the dispensers along the back clearly labeled with flavors like Angel Food Cake, Butter Brittle, Peach Mango Tart, Watermelon Sorbet and Butterscotch.

There are over 100 flavors and over 40 toppings, Barszcz said. This month's featured flavor is Ice Cream Sandwich Bar. The flavors rotate about every week to two weeks so you'll often find something new, she said.

Menchie's has nonfat, lowfat, tart, sorbet, no sugar added and low carb flavor options.

Once a cup is filled to its owner's liking, it's time to move on to the toppings bar to select from almonds, granola, chocolate sprinkles, Oreos, coconunt and more. Menchie's also has fresh fruit toppings like pineapple, mango, kiwi and Maraschino cherries.

"It can be healthy or indulgent," Barszcz said.

Finally, add one of the four hot sauces - hot fudge, caramel, marshmallow or peanut butter.

When it's time to pay, place the cup on one of the scales near the register. It's $0.46 plus tax per ounce and $1 for a waffle bowl.

"You can fill it a little or a lot," she said.

On average a customer spends $3 to $5, she said, but there is one customer who had a record cup weighing 37 ounces.

Barszcz said Menchie's does fundraisers with schools and non-profit organizations and has been a popular spot for celebrations. She said a birthday party package is coming soon.
