How did your business get started? I have been creating photographs for many years, beginning with film and a darkroom. In 2007 I made the switch to digital and opened a photography studio. However, after several years I found I really loved black and white photographs and decided to go back to using all film. Occasionally I might pop in color film but the majority of my business is black and white. This past year I have also started hand-tinting portraits, using traditional oil paints. Besides families and children I also am commissioned to photograph and hand color historic homes.

What services does your business provide?
I create custom black and white portraiture and albums of children and families. I also create handcolored portraiture, using traditional oil paints. In addition to people portraits, I also photograph homes and landscapes and handpaint those photographs, too.

What do you want your business to be best known for?
I want Joan Elizabeth Photography to be known for high-end classic portraiture, using fine art archival papers and old fashioned methods. My sessions focus on the clients needs, beginning with an initial design appointment where we create session goals to the selection of that perfect frame to showcase your beautiful portraits.

What's your most popular service?
Black and white portraiture and custom albums are my most popular products. I also create handcolored portraiture and there is a lot of interest in this old fashioned method.

Why did you choose the location that you did
? While I make my home in Plymouth, the majority of my sessions are taken on location.
