Plymouth's 789 Building Celebrates Grand Opening

The building contains three new Plymouth businesses.

It's been several years since developer Omar Hamden and his partner first approached the City of Plymouth with their plans for a two-story building at 789 Ann Arbor Trail. The long wait was paid off when Hamden, along with friends and family, celebrated the grand opening of the building on Friday.

Three businesses occupy the lower part of the building: Cafe Jorge, a coffee shop featuring pastries from local regional businesses; Aladdin Shawarma Express, which will serve Mediterranean and Lebanese cuisine and Yummie Yogurt which will offer 16 different flavors of frozen yogurt and more than 70 choices of toppings.

Hamden said the upstairs of the building, planned for a restaurant, is ready for a tenant and he has had some interest in the space.

The building also doubles as an art gallery, featuring our art from Jegal Art Studio. Jorge Galvez, owner of the studio, exhibits work in different places throughout metro-Detroit.

Galvez said it's more fun bringing art to everybody instead of having people go to a gallery.
