Popular Farmington Sports Bar Coming to Canton

The Basement Burger Bar will open its second location on Ford Road in Canton.

After more than three years in business and multiple awards for best burger in Metro Detroit, Farmington's well-known Basement Burger Bar will open a second location - in Canton.

Canton's Basement Burger Bar will open in the former RealBarBQ location on Ford Road just west of Lilley Road.

The original Basement Burger Bar is located - that's right - in a basement on Grand River Avenue. After trying to expand upstairs, the owners began looking at other cities to expand in, according to David Azar, whose family owns the business.

"It's in our demographics and it's a good distance away from out current location and a good center point for the surrounding areas," Azar said.

"We like small intimate places - we don't like large dining rooms," he said. The original one is in a basement, though, but this is still small and cozy. We're big on the neighborhood pub feel - you're neighborhood go-to bar. That's how we kind of hope to stand out around here because a lot of the corporate restaurants are around here. They're not really personable. If you go to our Farmington location, people will tell you it's like 'Cheers,' where everyone knows your name. And that's the kind of bar we are. Owners will greet you, seat you and get to know you."

The location is currently undergoing renovations and Azar said the family hopes to open before the end of the year.

The Basement Burger Bar specializes in burgers and more than 50 types of craft beer, but also features salads, appetizers and desserts.

"We have a pretty cool menu," Azar said. "Our concept is build your own burger. You get your own build-it menu. And we have different types of proteins, like we do Kobe beef, bison, turkey burgers, chicken, mushroom - all types of burgers and we have over 50 different toppings. You just go through and circle what you like."

Azar said they grind their burger meat fresh every day after getting it from a local meat market.

"That's the key to why our burgers are so good," he said.
