Trading Post is Readers' Choice for Best Sporting Goods Store

A local fixture since 1964, the Trading Post has built up a loyal local customer base.

When Plymouth Patch asked readers what their favorite sporting goods store in town was, their answer came with little hesitation.

“, of course,” Mary Bennett said on Plymouth Patch’s Facebook page.

Sherada Collins agreed.

“Is there a place other than the Trading Post?” she asked.

The Trading Post dominated Plymouth Patch’s Readers’ Choice poll for best sporting goods store in Plymouth, taking 58 percent of the vote in our poll and beating out nine other local stores ranging from cycle shops to dancewear stores.

came in second place, earning 19 percent.

Owner David Cook was happy to earn the honor.

“It’s a nice thing to have happen to you,” he said.

Cook said he started working for the store the day it opened in 1964, when he was in high school, and now is the owner. The family-owned business has built up a loyal local customer base, he said.

While admittedly “not a glamorous store,” Cook said, the Trading Post makes use of its massive area to stock a wide variety of sporting goods. Cook likened the store’s layout to a hardware store, but for athletes.

In addition to carrying varsity letter jackets for , and Northville High School, the Trading Post also carries a large selection of high-end gear for serious athletes, Cook said.

“We have a lot of merchandise,” he said. “We carry all the better stuff.”
