The Recovery Project Launches New Physical Therapy Program for Individuals with Parkinson's Disease

Livonia-based The Recovery Project (TRP), a provider of aggressive, focused and effective physical and occupational therapy and training to people with traumatic brain and spinal cord injuries, and other neurological disorders, announced today that it has launched Parkinson’s Wellness Recovery (PWR!), a high-intensity therapeutic exercise program tailored to individuals with Parkinson’s Disease. TRP co-CEO and lead physical therapist Polly Swingle made the announcement.

The new program is designed for all stages of Parkinson’s, with a treatment plan that optimizes brain health and targets physical deficits. PWR! includes two one-on-one hour-long sessions per week for eight weeks with a PWR! trained clinician, tune-ups every three months for continual motivation, and the development of a personalized home exercise program to address specific needs. The ultimate goal of the program is to inspire lifestyle changes and empower those with Parkinson’s Disease to stay active, motivated and exercising.

“Evidence-based research shows that regular high-intensity exercise can have significant positive impacts on the quality of life of those living with Parkinson’s Disease, yet there are very few programs in the region geared specifically toward the disease,” said Swingle. “We built PWR! to fulfill the need for a customized physical therapy treatment plan, with the mission to improve our clients’ quality of life as much as possible.”
