Making Valentine cards for senior citizens

Your family can make Valentine cards to send to senior citizens in nursing homes around the state.

Your family can start off the new year with a fun and free activity that will benefit others!  What can be better than that? On Thursday, Jan. 3rd, from 2-4pm,  the Canton Public Library is hosting a Valentine card making get-together for my non-profit organization, "Snail Mail For Seniors".  http://www.facebook.com/pages/Snail-Mail-For-Seniors/124492997569226

All of the supplies are provided and it is free of charge.  Our organization sends greeting cards to 800 senior citizens in nursing and assisted living homes in the state each month. These go to seniors who otherwise do not receive any mail.  We also include a card monthly in the Canton "Meals On Wheels" home delivered meals.  Handmade cards are especially cherished by the seniors.  Bring the kids and let them enjoy the experience of doing something to help others.  This is also a good opportunity for students of all ages to earn some community service hours.

If you are unable to attend the session but would still like to help out, your family can make cards and pictures at home.  This is a great activity for these cold days with the kids home from school. Please do not use glitter, and do not write 'get well' on the cards.  All items may be left at the front desk of Waltonwood Carriage Park Assisted Living Home located at 2000 Canton Center Rd., Canton.  Please put your cards in a bag or box labeled "Snail Mail", with donor info inside.  Pictures of cards that are sent to us can be seen on our facebook page, or our website:  www.snailmailforseniors.com

Thanks to everyone in our community who has donated or made cards for the seniors in 2012!  This program could not continue to grow without all of your support and ongoing contributions. I hope to see many of you on Thursday!
