5. Celebrate gold medalist Allison Schmitt's homecoming next week in Canton
Olympic swimming standout will return home from London next week and will take part in a local homecoming Aug. 14 at the Amphitheater in Canton. Schmitt, a 2008 graduate, earned , one and one this year at the Olympic Games in London.

4. Kimmie Horne comes to Canton Color Tour Jazz Series tonight
Tonight from 7-9 p.m. outside at , the Canton DDA in cooperation with Canton Leisure Services and the Canton Chamber of Commerce welcomes Kimmie Horne to the 2012 Canton Color Tour Jazz Series.
Kimmie is a crowd pleaser and a regular at the Canton Summer Jazz Series. A native Detroiter, she is known as one of the premiere alto vocalists in the area. An exciting performer and entertainer, Kimmie Horne features blends of Classic Jazz, Pop and Rhythm and Blues.

3. Inaugural Art About Town event comes to Plymouth this week
Art About Town is coming on Saturday. The event will be held in Downtown Plymouth from 10 a.m.-6 p.m. and is put on by the downtown merchants and the Plymouth Community Chamber of Commerce.
Participating businesses will sponsor an artist at their location that will be on-site throughout the day to give demonstrations and talks on their artform. Some will have artwork available for sale. There will be a "passport" to take to the participating buisnesses to be stamped. To win, a participant must have 12 stamps on their passport.
