5. Experience Dickens Christmas at Plymouth Historical Museum

Want some historical perspective on Charles Dickens' life and works? The Plymouth Historical Museum has its Dickens Christmas exhibit open each Wednesday, Friday, Saturday and Sunday through Jan. 13. 

4. Longest Night service planned in Plymouth

Christmas is a time of celebration. But, it can also be a time filled with feelings of loss as families contemplate Christmas without loved ones. If you or anyone you know is experiencing pain mixed with the joy of Christmas, the First Presbyterian Church of Plymouth invites you to visit the church at 5 p.m. Sunday for its Longest Night service.

3. Red Wings alumni to play charity game in Plymouth

The Detroit Red Wings Alumni Association and the Joe Kocur Foundation for Children will hit the ice at Compuware Arena in Plymouth Dec. 21 to play a charity hockey game, the proceeds of which will be donated to the O'Rourke Family Trust in honor of fallen West Bloomfield Police Officer Patrick O'Rourke.

O'Rourke, 39, of Fenton, was fatally shot Sept. 9 while responding with other officers to what police believed could have been a suicidal man.

1. Watch 'Santa's Shoes' in Canton

Local youths, ages 5-18 will showcase their acting talents in Spotlight on Youth’s production of Santa’s Shoes through Dec. 16. There is a performance today at 7 p.m. Tickets are $10. This play, with comedy and magical cheer, is loved by families during the holiday season.
