5. Happy Diwali!

Hindus around the world are celebrating the five-day festival of Diwali. The literal meaning of Diwali in Sanskrit is "row of lamps.” The most popular tradition of Diwali is filling little clay lamps with oil and decorating homes with rows of lamps that are kept burning all night long. In its true essence, Diwali signifies the victory of Goodness over Evil, Light over Darkness and Knowledge over Ignorance. Read more about Diwali here.

4. Drop off a letter for Santa Claus in Canton

Canton Leisure Services has made special arrangements with its friends at the North Pole and the U.S. Post Office to deliver children's wish lists to Santa. To mail your letter to Santa, please drop it in the North Pole express Mailbox in the Summit on the Park lobby Nov. 1 - Dec. 2. Santa asks that you print your name and address clearly so he can reply to your letter. Each household will receive a return letter and Santa will take care of the postage.

3. Register for Turkey Trot for a Cause

Celebrate the tradition of family and exercise on Thanksgiving morning as Canton runs for the cause of epilepsy. This 5K chip-timed run/walk is a family event. Headquarters are at the Summit on the Park ballroom. Pre-registrants are eligible to receive a Turkey Trot T-shirt. The run will wind through Heritage Park and Pheasant Run Golf Course. Check out csc.canton-mi.org for the latest updates. 2. Contribute to Patch and Gleaners virtual food drive!

Patch.com, through its 30 Michigan sites including Plymouth-Canton, launched an online food drive to raise $10,000 by Nov. 17 to feed area families. This is the first virtual food drive for the Gleaners Community Food Bank, and Patch is proud and honored to be their first partner.
