5 Things You Need to Know Today — Oct. 14, 2012

Here's what's going on today in Plymouth and Canton.

Trivia: Which university offered Derek Jeter a scholarship to play baseball?

Yesterday's trivia answer: The Detroit Tigers have won four playoff series under Jim Leyland, against the same two teams: The Oakland Athletics (2) and New York Yankees (2).

5. Great Lakes Regional Chili Cookoff

The Great Lakes Regional Chili Cookoff is 11 a.m.-5 p.m. in Kellogg Park in downtown Plymouth. Stop by to sample some chili and catch a glimpse of plenty of motorcycles. Awards are announced at 5 p.m. — we'll see if Plymouth-Canton Patch reader Tom Pardikes takes home top prize for his acclaimed chili!

4. Halloween Guide

See our Halloween Guide for ideas on what to do to get into the spooky spirit!

3. Scarecrows in Kellogg Park

Twenty-nine scarecrows are up in Kellogg Park.  Groups, businesses and families build and decorate a scarecrow in Kellogg Park to be on display through Halloween. Take a walk down Main Street to see them and look for our very own Patch scarecrow!

2. Show your P-CEP school spirit

Plymouth beat Canton on Friday night, but don't let that be the lone factor in deciding bragging rights! We're running a photo competition to show school spirit between Plymouth, Canton and Salem that will run through Canton-Salem's Oct. 19 game. Upload photos showing school spirit for bragging rights!

1. Canton Farmers Market

Visit the Canton Farmers Market from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. at Preservation Park, 500 North Ridge Road. Shop for seasonal produce, farm eggs, honey, artisan cheese, marinades, blended teas, baked goods, natural soaps and more.
