1. McCotter drops White House bid

U.S. Rep. Thaddeus McCotter (R-Livonia), whose campaign headquarters were based in downtown Plymouth, dropped out of the 2012 presidential race on Sept. 23, the Detroit Free Press reported. McCotter had been locked out of GOP debates and gained to generate steam on the campaign trail, according to the report.

2. Westland native Mike Modano retires

Westland native and former Detroit Red Wing Mike Modano announced his retirement on Sept. 22, the Detroit Free Press reported. Modano, a longtime fixture for the Dallas Stars/Minnesota North Stars franchise, played last season in Detroit, but injuries plagued his homecoming.

3. Man accused of killing Livonia officer enters plea deal

Terry Bowling, who is charged with killing a Livonia police officer Jan. 17, received a reduced second-degree murder charge, the Detroit News reported. The case was scheduled to go to trial today, but Bowling now will be due in court Oct. 19 for sentencing.

4. Northville actress enjoys MTV spotlight

Actress Jillian Rose Reed, from Northville, is standing out in the MTV series Awkward, the Detroit News reported.

5. Plymouth Township man critical in Northville Township crash

A 53-year-old Plymouth Township man was critically injured Thursday when he rear-ended a tractor trailer on Five Mile Road in Northville Township, . According to the report, the accident occurred at 5:30 a.m.
