Local musician and Livonia council candidate Steve King pleads not guilty to assault

Livonia City Council candidate Steve King re-entered a not guilty plea Oct. 6 to a charge of felonious assault in a hearing at Wayne County Circuit Court, the Livonia Observer is reporting.

King is known to Plymouth residents as the voice of Steve King and the Dittilies, a rock music group that performs at various Plymouth-area events. He is accused of attempting to run over a man trying to repossess his vehicle Aug. 24 at a Secretary of State branch office, the report said. King allegedly drove the vehicle off the lift of the man's tow truck, then drove at the man, according to the report.

Woman sues Emagine theater, film distributor for misleading 'Drive' movie trailer

An irate movie theater customer is suing Emagine, a movie theater chain, and FilmDistrict, a film distributor for the critically acclaimed film Drive, because she said the trailer for the film was misleading, Detroit's WDIV-TV reported. Sarah Deming of Keego Harbor, MI, said the actual film, which she saw at Emagine in Novi, wasn't the Fast and the Furious-style race-action flick the movie trailer hinted at. She also accused the film of being anti-Semitic.

Trial postponed for strangled Westland girl

The trial for Belleville resident Justin Yoshikawa, 19, in the 2010 strangling death of a Westland girl has been postponed to November, according to the Royal Oak Daily Tribune. Carlee Morse, 16, left her Westland apartment and was never seen again, the report said. According to the Daily Tribune, Nicholas Jay Cottrell, 22, of Taylor testified against Yoshikawa in a plea deal, saying Yoshikawa strangled the girl and put her body in a dumpster.

Suspected shooter arrested by Washtenaw County Sheriff's Office

The Washtenaw County Sheriff's Office has announced Oct. 8 it located and arrested 25-year-old Leon Freeman, who is a suspect in a shooting that injured three people earlier that morning, . Sheriff's Office spokesman Derrick Jackson said the shooting happened at 2 a.m. that day at the Elks Frontier Lodge, 1405 Ecorse Rd., in Ypsilanti Township.

Canton Police seek tips on ID theft suspect

investigators are asking for help with identifying a fraud suspect, . According to the report, police said a man had visited the AT&T store on Ford Road and falsely identified himself as an agent from a company. Police declined to identify the company, the report said. Police told Canton Patch the man presented a counterfeit check and bought several AT&T cell phones.
