Canton Drivers Could Face Icy Commute

National Weather Service meteorologists suggest allowing extra time for Tuesday morning's commute.

The National Weather Service is warning drivers to expect icy roads and use caution during the morning commute.

A 2 a.m. weather service advisory predicts a light wintry mix of snow, sleet and freezing rain for the morning commute through the early and mid-morning hours. The mix is expected to develop between 4 and 7 a.m. and could glaze roadways. The weather service statement suggested drivers allow extra time for the morning commute

Warm air moving northward will bring a change over to a cold rain from south to north up into the M-59 and I-69 corridors through late morning.

The rain will change back over to snow during the afternoon. Although temperatures will climb above freezing through the late morning hours, untreated or less-traveled roads will likely remain slippery, according to the weather service.

The winter weather advisory is in effect from 2 a.m. until noon Tuesday.
