Five Things You Need to Know June 22, 2011

Build your own nonprofit group, listen to free music and find some bonus bagels.

1.  free lunch-and-learn is from noon to 1:30 p.m. Wednesday at the foundation's offices, 50430 School House Rd. The event will feature Michigan State University professor Joe Wald, who'll talk about the business of running a nonprofit organization. Wald is a former Sparrow Health System administrator who now teaches public relations strategy and fundraising and philanthropy for non-profits. Wald's graduate students have assisted Detroit Area Diaper Bank, the Plymouth Fife and Drum Corps, the Michigan Philharmonic, Personalized Nursing LIGHT House and the Plymouth Canton Citizens for Diversity. 2. Canton's kicks off from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. Wednesday at featuring the band View — and the date marks the start of the indie rocker band's summer tour schedule. Bring your own lawn chairs or blankets.

3. Big Apple Bagels, 302 N. Canton Center Rd. (Isabella’s Plaza), has a two-for-one deal going this week: Buy six bagels and get six free. Here's the catch: You have to show the company's "free bagels" graphic icon on your phone or print it out and bring it into the store as a coupon. This promotion ends Sunday.

4. The Canton Chamber of Commerce has begun promoting this year's "Grub Crawl" on July 19 as a one-night, 14-restaurant experience for $35. , , , , , , , , , , , Tim & Sally's Awesome Eats and . Register by calling the chamber's office at 734-453-4040.

5. Planning ahead for Thursday: Steve King and the Dittilies perform at 7:30 p.m. Thursday at , followed by a movie under the stars at 9 p.m. Bring your own blankets, folding chairs and, if you are so inclined, a donation to support this arts event.
