Weather warnings, Little Women and a reminder about Canton's tree lighting on Wednesday

1. Warning for Drivers: Rain, Wind, Snow

The picture painted by the National Weather Service isn't pretty, unless you like rain all day, periodic wind gusts and snow by nightfall. Drivers, allow for plenty of extra commuting time -- and check out Canton Patch's interactive traffic map.

2. Storm Spotting Class

Speaking of bad weather, Saturday is the last day to attend a free class offered by the National Weather Service. The class, set for 1 p.m. Saturday at the Detroit Public Library's main branch, 5201 Woodward Ave., Detroit, covers winter safety as well as how to read the sky for signs of impending storms -- and how to report severe winter weather to the National Weather Service. The class is free.

3. Meet Neighbors

The members have planned a holiday dinner and a ladies night out, beginning at 7:15 p.m. on Dec. 7 at the Sunflower Clubhouse, 45800 Hanford. In addition to sharing a meal and laughter, participants can join the white elephant exchange by bringing a beautifully wrapped used item — or opt for a new ornament exchange. The veining will include a raffle to benefit the Canton Goodfellows' No Child Without a Christmas program.

4. Watch 'Little Women'

' staging of Little Women -- Louisa May Alcott's saga of four sisters growing up in the Civil War era, opens at 7 p.m. Thursday at Village Theater at Cherry Hill, 50400 Cherry Hill Rd. Tickets cost $15.

5. Township, Plymouth-Canton School Board

Canton Township trustees meet for a study session at 7 tonight at the Canton Township Administration Building, 1150 S. Canton Center Rd., to discuss the neighborhood stabilization program.

The Plymouth-Canton Community Schools' board of education also meets at 7 tonight, at the district office, 454 S. Harvey St., Plymouth. Board members will discuss an amendment to the current budget as well as a proposal to offer full-day kindergarten.
