1. Salute to Service

Canton Township's annual Salute to Service program for Veterans Day is set for 6 p.m. Nov. 11 at . The evening is devoted to honoring those who serve n the U.S. Armed Forces. This free program is open to the public.

2. Meet a Greyhound

Learn about adopting a former racing greyhound — and get to know a few, from noon to 4 p.m. today at , 43465 Ford Rd. For details, email Christina Williamson at greygal75@gmail.com or visit greyheart.org.

3. Help Relay For Life of Canton

The planning committee for Relay for Life of Canton 2012 is being assembled. It you or someone your know might be interested in helping, attend an organizing meeting set for 6 p.m. Tuesday at the , 1150 S. Canton Center Rd.

4. Celebrate Diwali

, the Hindu Festival of Lights, at , 1200 S. Canton Center Rd. at 7 p.m. Wednesday, in the community room.

Diwali is one of the oldest and most important festivals in India. The name comes from the Indian word "Deepavali" and the literal translation means "an array of lamps." This free family friendly event will feature Indian music, dancing, rangoli, sampling of Indian food and the art of drawing henna patterns

5. Furlough Day

The , Canton Public Safety's records bureau, police and fire administrative offices and ordinance enforcement unit will be closed today for a furlough. Township offices reopen at 8:30 a.m. Monday. Police, fire and emergency services will operate normally, as will Leisure Services Department programs outside the township administration building.
