Sept. 11 reminders, and Canton's Hazardous Waste Day,

1. Hazardous Waste Day

Canton’s annual is set for 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. today at the township's Public Works Building, 4847 Sheldon Rd. This free service is open only to township residents. Guidelines are online.

2. Detroit Moose Charity Hockey

The Detroit Moose Hockey Club plays charity hockey against Ameriprise Financial at 5 tonight at Compuware Arena, 14900 N. Beck Rd., in Plymouth. The game honors those who lost their lives on Sept. 11 and their families as well as serve in fire departments, police departments and the military. A slice of pizza and a soft drink will be free for the first 100 children (12 and younger) at the game. Players from both teams will also sign autographs after the game. Admission is free.

3. Sept. 11 Memorial

The Muslim Community of Western Suburbs, 40440 Palmer Rd., will host a memorial service at 2:30 p.m. Sunday, which will include both religious and community leaders. In addition to services, the MCWS is asking participants to bring food that can be donated to area food pantries. An often-forgotten statistic from that terrible day 10 years ago is that dozens of American Muslims were among the nearly 3,000 victims of the terrorist attacks.

4. Gas: $3.79

Three stations are selling gas for $3.79 a gallon today — the lowest price in the township, according to GasBuddy.com, as of Saturday evening: , 8773 N Haggerty Rd.; , 45495 Michigan Ave.; and , 44431 Michigan Ave.

5. Plan Ahead: Brew, Brats and Bands

is exactly seven days from today. This fundraiser, set for 6 to 9 p.m. Sept. 17 at Preservation Park in the Cady Boyer Barn, includes plenty of beer (craft and specialty by the dozens) Buy tickets at Summit on the Park, Canton Treasurer's office, the township's parks office or the Farmers Market. The $30 admission includes a tasting mug, brats with fixings, 5 beer-tasting tickets and pretzels.
