Five Things You Need to Know Sept. 11, 2011

Sept. 11 observances, Borders closing update and Canton Farmers Market news.

1. Remembering Sept. 11

The Muslim Community of Western Suburbs, 40440 Palmer Rd., will host a memorial service at 2:30 p.m. Sunday, which will include both religious and community leaders. In addition to services, the MCWS is asking participants to bring food that can be donated to area food pantries. Many American Muslims were among the nearly 3,000 terrorist attacks' victims.

2. Farmer's Market

Dietician Lisa Soper is scheduled to demonstrate a bean and corn salsa recipe from 10:30 to noon today at the at Preservation Park, on Ridge Road near Cherry Hill Road. Mark Reitenga is scheduled to provide music from the Bartlett-Travis porch — but with the threat of rain, he and many vendors may be in the Cady Boyer Barn.

3. Borders Winding Down

Prices have been lowered by as much as 90 percent in many cases for remaining merchandise and fixtures at , 43435 Ford Rd., which closes for good on Thursday, according to the company's latest list, released Saturday.

4. Gas: $3.79

Four stations in Canton are selling gas for $3.79 a gallon, according to GasBuddy.com on Saturday afternoon: , 125 S Canton Center Rd. and 45495 Michigan Ave .; , 44431 Michigan Ave.; and , 8773 N Haggerty Rd.

5. Monday: Library's Sept. 11 Programs

Tomorrow, will host two programs on the 10th anniversary of the Sept 11 terrorist attacks. The first is a flag-raising ceremony at 9 a.m. Monday. The second is a program of patriotic music by the Michigan Philharmonic at 7 p.m. Monday.
