Five Things You Need to Know: Sept. 2, 2011

Beer, Brats and Band tickets on sale, and there's a long weekend ahead.

1. Offices Closed

In addition to being closed today for a furlough (emergency services, of course, will operate as usual), government offices from the township's through the federal agencies will be closed on Monday in observance of Labor Day. They will return to normal weekday hours on Tuesday.

2. Beer, Brats and Bands

Tickets are on sale for the next fundraiser, . Set for 6 to 9 p.m. on Sept. 17 at Preservation Park, the party includes live entertainment and a wide variety of beers to sample. Tickets cost $25 in advance and can be purchased at , 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Sundays at Preservation Park; Canton Parks office; at ; or the Canton Township Administration building, 1150 S. Canton Center Rd. Call 734-394-5214 for details. Ticket prices will be $30 at the door.

3. Bark for Life Canton

Volunteers for Bark for Life Canton are already planning the 2012 walk—but they are looking for suggestions and ideas. The walk, which will take place annually after , is an American Cancer Society fundraiser. Post your ideas on the Bark for Life Canton Facebook page.

4. Gas: $3.75

Gas at the , 45490 Michigan Ave., is the lowest price you'll find in Canton Township today: $3.75, according to GasBuddy.com as of 10 p.m. Thursday.

5. Plan Ahead: Summit Reopens

, closed this week for annual maintenance (which includes painting, cleaning and the installation of new exercise machines), will reopen at 6 a.m. Saturday.
