Five Things You Should Know This Week

Public meetings, mystery novels and Canton talent showcased with one-act plays on the Village Theater at Cherry Hill's stage.

Five things you need to know this week:

1. Meetings: The Canton Township board of trustees meeting that was scheduled for tonight has been canceled. Other public boards with scheduled meetings this week:

  • Canton's Downtown Development Authority board is set to meet at 8 a.m. Wednesday in Township Supervisor Phil LaJoy's office in the .
  • The Leisure Services Advisory Committee's meeting is scheduled for 7 to 9 p.m. Wednesday at 's Parkview Room.
  •   board of trustees is scheduled to meet at 7:30 p.m. Thursday at the library, 1200 S. Canton Center Rd.; 734-397-0999.

2. If you love wine and mystery novels, Wednesday is the time to register for the library’s “Wine and Mysteries” group. The book to be discussed starting at 7 p.m., Feb. 15 at , 8515 N. Lilley Rd., is The Chardonnay Charade by Ellen Crosby. , the library's mystery lovers will meet at Vinter's to talk about Murder Uncorked by Michele Scott.

3. The curtain goes up on the first-ever Canton One-Acts Festival, which starts at 8 p.m. Friday with six plays. The show will be repeated at 8 p.m. Saturday and 2 p.m. Sunday. (Check back with Canton Patch for a story on the creative Canton minds responsible for this event.)

4. Homeowners can get vouchers to replace or add trees to the space between the sidewalk and curb. The township's planning services division will issue vouchers on a first-come, first-served basis starting Wednesday. 5. 's second-floor restaurant will be closed today and Wednesday for some upgrades. You can still get those 50-cent hotdogs and $1 cinnamon rolls from the first-floor cafe.
