Updated: Nearly 200 Remain Without Power After Saturday Hail Storm

Trained spotters reported hail up to an inch in diameter in size, according to the National Weather Service.

Some of the DTE customer who lost electricity Saturday will remain without power through this evening. As of Tuesday morning, more than 150 Canton customers remained powerless, down from 500 right after Saturday evening's brief but intense hail storm. Overall, about 125,000 throughout Southeast Michigan were initially affected; as of Tuesday morning, 114,000 had been restored.

Still in the dark is Schoolcraft College's Radcliff Center, so all Tuesday classes are canceled.

Canton resident Scott Lytle Sr., wrote in an email to Patch that the hail broke a neighbor's window but he hadn't heard of other injuries. Lytle gathered a photographed some of the hail that fell in his neighborhood.

The storm also caused the Michigan Philharmonic Orchestra to cancel a patriotic concert in Plymouth's Kellogg Park for the safety of the musicians and audience. All but a handful of the more than 150 in Plymouth affected have seen power restored.

According to DTE's website, the severe storm originally left about 125,000 customers in the dark; as of 6:30 p.m. Sunday, power had been restored to about 40,000. An announcement posted on DTE's website indicates that while most customers should have power restored by late Monday, some will have to wait until Tuesday morning.

Not everyone in Canton experienced the oddball storm; those living on the township's west side saw not even a drop of rain. Trained spotters reported hail up to an inch in diameter in size, according to the National Weather Service.

The weather service is predicting a 30 to 50 percent chance of thunderstorms overnight, but the storms are not expected to be severe.
