How to Avoid I-96, US-23 While Police Search for Suspected Gunman

Check out these alternate routes.

The I-96 shooter may have people rethinking their routes to and from work. Here are some alternate routes to I-96 and US-23:

  • Grand River: Grand River Avenue runs alongside I-96. You can hop on Grand River near the interstate and it will take you to either Lansing in the west, or Detroit in the East. You'll want to allow yourself extra time if taking this route to account for the slower speed limit and traffic lights.
  • Old US-23: If you are traveling from the Hartland area to Brighton or Fenton, you can take Old US-23. If you need to get to Ann Arbor, you can take Old US-23 to Whitmore Lake Road.

For Plymouth-Canton commuters heading toward or from US-23, you can always take I-275 north to M-14 west to US-23 north, or US-23 south to M-14 east to I-275 south.
