Missy, a St. Bernard, Needs Home After Foreclosure

Volunteers for Lake Erie Metro Animal Rescue, a no-kill shelter, are caring for Missy until she finds a new home.

Missy is a pure-bred St. Bernard on the mend after a difficult separation from her last family, who lost their home to foreclosure, according to Sharon Parker, founder of the Lake Erie Metro Animal Rescue – LEMAR for short.

LEMAR is a no-kill shelter Parker founded 15 years ago. Volunteers trek to Canton twice a month for dog and cat adoption days at , 43665 Ford Rd. The store hosts adoption events from noon to 4 p.m. on the first and third Saturdays of each month.

Missy, 2, has a placid demeanor. She has all her shots, is spayed and housebroken, Parker said. "She's very well-trained. She will shake hands with you ... she loves children, she loves cats and she's good with other dogs."

LEMAR volunteers' main goal is to place all the animals in their care into permanent homes. In the meantime, the no-kill shelter is looking for volunteers who are willing to offer foster homes to cats or dogs (or both). Donations are appreciated in the form of pet carriers; cages; litter boxes and litter; towels; sheets; blankets; pet food; treats; brushes; leashes; collars; bowls; and animal toys. Cash can be donated in the form of gift certificates or payment of vet bills.
