Plan Your Fourth of July Weekend

From patriotic concerts and fireworks to a parade and a memorial dedication, Plymouth is celebrating the holiday with a bang.

Independence Day is nearly upon us. Here is what Plymouth has planned for the weekend, with festivities beginning Thursday at and wrapping up Monday at .

Thursday, June 30

  • The Plymouth Community Band brings out the best of the Fourth of July at 7:30 p.m. at .
  • Weather is expected to be mostly sunny through the morning, partly sunny during the afternoon with highs between 78 and 82 and partly cloudy at night, with a chance of overnight showers and thunderstorms. Lows are expected to be about 61 to 65 with a 30 percent chance of rain.

Friday, July 1

  • The Zap Toro band brings its groovy sounds to Kellogg Park in the weekly Music in the Air concert at 7 p.m. The concert is free, so bring a lawn chair and enjoy the music. 
  • Friday temperatures are expected to rise to 87 degrees with partly sunny skies. Lows are still relatively high at 70, with mostly clear skies.
  • Tonight at  Drive-In: Cars 2 (G) with Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides (PG-13); Transformers: Dark of the Moon (PG-13) with Super 8 (PG-13) and Mr. Popper's Penguins (PG) with Green Lantern (PG-13).Tickets go on sale at 7:30 the night of the movie and all films begin at dusk (about 9:20 p.m.). Ticket prices are as follows: Adults: $9; children ages 4-12: $6; children under 3: Free; students with ID (Sunday-Thursday): $7. The drive-in only accepts cash or checks. 
  • The  will screen Rio, an animated family film from the creators of Ice Age, at 7 p.m. The film is PG and runs 96 minutes. All tickets are $3.
  • Northville's Friday Night Concert Series features the Patriotic Brass Festival Concert. The concert will be at Town Square, 215 W. Main St., and is sponsored by the Northville Downtown Development Authority and Tom Holzer Ford. In the event of rain, the concert will be held at .
  • It's the first Friday of the month in Northvile which means it's time for the . Check out art at galleries like the , , the and more.
  • Also, check out the popular Shawn Riley Band. They're performing on the Brick's patio.

Saturday, July 2

  • The Plymouth Farmers market will run from 7:30 a.m. to noon Saturday at the Plymouth Gathering pavilion near Kellogg Park.
  • A new Plymouth tradition begins at 7:30 p.m. at when the Michigan Philharmonic (formerly the Plymouth Symphony Orchestra) is on the Kellogg Park stage with "An American Salute" celebrating our nation's birthday.  The fun and family-friendly concert showcases popular American composers.  Among the selections, a medley of patriotic songs including "Yankee Doodle,"  "You're a Grand Old Flag," "This Land is Your Land," "God Bless the USA," along with the "Stars & Stripes Forever" march. The big brass cannons and church bells of Tchaikovsky's spectacular 1812 Overture provide a sensational grand finale to this not-to-be-missed summer concert.

Sunday, July 3

  • The annual Fourth of July fireworks display begins at dusk at .  Arrive at the park early to enjoy one of the biggest fireworks shows in southeast Michigan.

Monday, July 4

  • Northville's Fourth of July parade extravaganza kicks off at 10 a.m. See the city's pdf for the parade route. Keep an eye out for us in the parade. We'll be giving out all sorts of goodies.
  • will have quite a few festivities on the Fourth. Check them out, including a Civil War encampment, from 10:30 a.m. to 4 p.m.
  • The Plymouth-Canton High School Marching Band is sponsoring a pancake breakfast at the Gathering pavilion next to Kellogg Park from 6 a.m.-11 a.m.
  • The Good Morning USA parade steps off on Main Street at its new time, 9 a.m. More than 80 entries will entertain you as Plymouth celebrates the nation's birthday. After the parade is the annual Plymouth Township Fourth of July picnic at . Everyone is invited to enjoy hot dogs, chips, drinks and ice cream at a nominal price; as well as entertainment and games.
  • The city will close Main Street between Ann Arbor Road and Starkweather from 7 a.m. to approximately 11:30 a.m.  Because of the parade, Main Street and streets crossing Main Street will be closed throughout the morning Monday. 
  • Persons with questions about the parade should contact the Plymouth Chamber of Commerce at www.plymouthmich.org or by calling (734) 453-1540.
  • Also after the parade, Plymouth is recognizing its own American Revolution soldier, Titus Hoisington, at , where a monument will be placed. Hoisington's remains are buried on the property. Services begin at or about 10:30 a.m. 
  • Residents of Tonquish Creek Manor, 1160 Sheridan St. in Plymouth, will be participating in a Fourth of July Parade at 3:30 p.m. Residents who use walkers and/or wheelchairs are encouraged to decorate their equipment and participate in the small parade. 
  • The Fourth of July forecast calls for mostly sunny with temps staying steady around 83 and 87. At night, lows are expected to fall between 64 and 68 with mostly skies.
  • City offices will be closed this day. Garbage collection will be delayed one day.
