Plymouth Store Owner Brings Michigan-Grown Meats, Other Products To Plymouth Farmers Market

From grass-fed beef to buffalo, Garry Kuneman supports Michigan farmers by selling their goods

Being an independent businessman himself, Garry Kuneman understands the importance of supporting others trying to make a go of it in a tough Michigan economy.

A year ago, he opened a small storefront business - Natural Local Food Express - in Plymouth that offers sustainable healthy products mainly produced statewide.

This summer, Kuneman set up shop at the Plymouth Farmers Market, providing local residents with Michigan meats and cheeses that not only has health benefits, but that keeps profits here in Michigan.

From mainstays like corn fed beef to pork, chicken, lamb, turkey and several varieties of bratwurst to more unique tastes like buffalo and fresh elk vension, Kuneman's farm market stop offers a little of everything.

He said at first, patrons are a little leery about giving buffalo a chance. But because of its health benefits, buffalo often replaces beef as a staple in people's diets.

Buffalo offers more Omega 3s than salmon and includes less cholesterol than a chicken breast.

Kuneman works with about 30 Michigan farms to build his food stock, which also includes several gourmet cheeses, again all of which are produced in Michigan.

The Plymouth Farmers Market runs from May-October and operates from 7:30 a.m.-12:30 p.m. Saturdays at The Gathering in downtown Plymouth.
