Brew, Brats and Band at the Barn, free health screening and Farmers market tribute to librarian Kristen Kostielney.

1. Brew, Brats and Bands

, 6 to 9 p.m. Saturday at Preservation Park, in the Cady Boyer Barn. Tickets can be purchased at the or at the entrance. The $30 at-the-door admission includes craft and dozens of specialty beers, tasting mug, brats with fixings, five beer-tasting tickets and pretzels. Designated drivers pay $10 to get in. This event benefits the .

2. Free Health Screenings

The Muslim Community of Western Suburbs (MCWS), 40440 Palmer Rd., is hosting its half-day health fair from 8 a.m. to 1:15 p.m. Saturday.Visitors can get free screenings (cholesterol tests cost $10) but must register online.

MCWS has organized a series of workshops led by medical doctors from Wayne State University's medical school and the following hospitals: , St. John's and Annapolis (Garden City) as well as the Bixby Medical Center of Adrian. Topics include managing high blood pressure; heart attack awareness; obesity and diabetes prevention and cholesterol control.

3. Passport Day

The following municipalities are participating in National Passport Day from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday:

  • Plymouth Township Hall, 9955 N Haggerty Rd.; 734-354-3228 (no photo service).
  • City of Plymouth, 201 S. Main St., Plymouth; 734-453-1234 (no photo service).
  • City of Northville, 200 S. Wing St.; 248-349-1300, with photo service available.
  • City of Novi, 45175 W. 10 Mile Rd., 248-347-0485, will be open from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. with photo service.

Canton's Passport Day was held earlier this year.

4. Gas: $3.65

Look for gas at $3.65 a gallon at , 45495 Michigan Ave. and , 44431 Michigan Ave., according to GasBuddy.com, as of Friday evening.

5. Plan Ahead: Canton Farmers Market

Michigan-grown squash, apples and all sorts of late-season produce may be found at 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Sunday at Preservation Park — with a musical backdrop provided by Kerfuffles Band, on the Bartlett-Travis porch.

It's the first of two markets featuring a plant exchange — if you bring a plant, you can trade for something different; those without plants can buy them for $1.

Perhaps more importantly, Sunday will feature a celebration of longtime Children's Tween & Teen program director Kristen Kolstielney, who is leaving . On Sunday, children can hear her read stories or do crafts (or both).
