United Way Provides Hats for Homeless, Those in Need

Plymouth Community United Way's Hats for the Homeless program begins.

The has kicked off its 2011 drive to
collect hats for the homeless and those struggling economically, according to a news release from the organization. Through the end of the year, the agency is accepting new hats, gloves, scarves, and socks for men, women and children.

Last year, the Plymouth Community United Way distributed more than 1,400
items, the news release said. Donations can be dropped off at Plymouth Community United Way, 960 W. Ann Arbor Trail, Suite 2, Plymouth, or arrangements can be made for pickup. For more information, call Nick Stonerook at (734) 453-6879, Ext. 3.

According to the news release, the Plymouth Community United Way raises funds year-round for 10 partner agencies including First Step, Angela Hospice, the Salvation Army Plymouth Corps, and Plymouth Community Council on Aging. The nonprofits offer a variety of services from food pantries to an emergency dental fund, bus transportation for seniors, housing for adults with developmental disabilities, programs and a shelter for victims of domestic
violence and their children, and opportunities for Girl Scouts and Boy
Scouts to develop skills and become valuable members of the community.
