@Jones - no one nominated Planet Fitness during the nomination stage, which ended earlier this month.

Once again another poor poll by Patch. Just because something wasn't nominated, doesn't mean it should be left of the list. People come to Patch for to receive information, not to provide the content. Do just a little legwork please! There are so many glaring omissions I stopped reading the poll after 5 categories. Someone already mentioned Planet Fitness, but what about Lifetime Fitness? And for golf, what about Pheasant Run? Lifetime and P Run are probably the highest trafficked places in their respective categories. I can see the next Patch poll aready - What is your favorite soft drink? Your choices are RC Cola and Tab.

Pretty obvious from the results, although overall small number of responses, that Canton people either don't read the Patch or don't like to take surveys.

I voted Main Street for Pizza, because my new favorite wasn't on the list. Not my every time pizza, but really good every time...Curry on Crust, Ford and Canton Center.

Mike - we had a lengthy nomination process where readers could nominate literally any place in each particular category. Think of it as the elimination round. The point of Readers' Choice is to have the nominations for finalists — and the final voting — to be done by the readers. So with your soft drink example, leaving it open to readers would allow some more obscure suggestions, too, instead of what may be perceived as the obvious choices.
On your point about people coming to Patch to receive information and not provide it, I strongly disagree. Our platform has a very active base of community contributors, including local bloggers and those who post events and photos in addition to reading our editorial coverage. We put up fewer barriers for readers than traditional media, allowing those with something to say an opportunity to get published.

@John: Canton people definitely read us. Some business did better than others in getting the word out about their nomination and encouraging customers to vote.

Gary: As mentioned above, we had a nomination process for the finalists in the poll. I expected Desi Pizza Curry on Crust to get nominated based on what I've heard about it and was surprised when it wasn't.
