Weekend Countdown: 'Home for the Holidays'

It's a brand new week, with plenty of events to fill your calendar pages.

Christmas is less than two weeks away, and there's plenty going on to get you into the holiday spirit.

Today we pick:

Michigan Philharmonic Presents 'Home for the Holidays'

  • Where: Penn Theatre
  • When: 6 and 8 p.m. Thursday
  • Pricing: $10 student, $18 senior, $22 general admission
  • Why Go: OK, it's a Thursday event, so it's technically not the weekend, but it is a weekend kind of thing to do. See the Michigan Philharmonic's "Home for the Holidays" shows, full of holiday favorites such as "Sleigh Ride" and "A Charlie Brown Christmas." The 6 p.m show is the family concert, and for the 8 p.m. show the Michigan Philharmonic's principal oboist, Nermis Mieses, will perform solo. There also will be a Christmas carol sing-along and a rendition of Handel's Hallelujah Chorus.

Visit us again tomorrow for more weekend things-to-do.
