Weekend Planner: Dinner Whodunit, Hockey and a Hoedown, and More

Here's a look at what's happening around town this weekend.

Destination Imagination Concert

  • Where:
  • When: 6:30 p.m. Saturday
  • Pricing: $8 per person, and buy one full-price ticket and get the second half-off
  • Why Go: A group of talented Canton kids, part of Destination Imagination, will peform a show, part of their community project, and Canton Public Library will benefit.

Trouble in Silver City

  • Where:
  • When: Shows are Friday and Saturday night; doors open 6:30 p.m. and dinner is 7 p.m.
  • Pricing: $45; includes dinner and show; beer and wine is extra.
  • Why Go: The Spotlight Players present a murder-mystery meal. Dress in your best Old West costume (if you'd like) and dine at Miss Lily's Red Hat Saloon, circa 1870, as you help a cast of zany characters solve a mysterious death. You can also compete for prizes -- for best costumes and sleuthing skills -- as well.

Whalers hockey plus an Annabelle Road show

  • Where:
  • When: 7:05 p.m. Saturday
  • Pricing: $12-$16
  • Why Go: Catch an exciting night of hockey as the Plymouth Whalers host Mississauga. After the game, around 9:50 p.m., enjoy a free concert by country act Annabelle Road.

Miniature Masterpieces

  • Where: St John's Episcopal Church
  • When: 2 p.m. Sunday
  • Pricing: $22 general admission, $18 seniors, $10 students
  • Why Go: Enjoy an afternoon of "Miniature Masterpieces," presented by the Michigan Philharmonic. You'll hear soloist Melody Racine sing selections from Debussy and Mahler, plus a new work by Michigan-born composer Andre Meyers.

  • Dale Hicks Band performs its mix of classic rock and pop at , 9 p.m. Saturday. No cover.
  • Kids Day at the Whalers Game: The Plymouth Whalers play Windsor at 2 p.m. Monday, and afterwards everyone can enjoy a post-game skate with the team. There is also a Sticks & Pucks Clinic prior to the game, from 11 a.m.-1:15 p.m., with lunch to follow. It all happens at Compuware Arena. Game tickets are $12-$16, and $35 for the clinic.
  • Building Bridges: The Village Theater at Cherry Hill has a special tribute show for Martin Luther King Jr. Day. "Building Bridges" features speaker Deborah Smith Pollard. Ph.D., music by the New Hope Church and more. The reception begins at 5:30 and the show at 6 p.m. Admission is a $2 donation.
