Weekend Planner: Santa, Song and More

Here's a look at what's happening around town this weekend.

Dine with Santa at Fox Hills

  • Where:
  • When: Breakfast is 8:30-11:30 a.m. Saturday, and 1-4 p.m. for lunch that same day
  • Pricing: $17 for breakfast, ages 3 and up; or $18 for lunch for ages 3 and older
  • Why Go: Fox Hills is hosting breakfast and lunch with the jolly elf. Enjoy a meal, time with Santa Claus, plus games and crafts. There will also be a performance by the American Dance Academy.

Plymouth Historical Museum Craft Bazaar and Open House

  • Where:Plymouth Historical Museum
  • When: 9 a.m.-5 p.m. Saturday
  • Pricing: Free
  • Why Go: The Plymouth Historical Museum holds its annual juried Craft Bazaar & Open House, where jewelry, ceramic art, knitted goods, recycled creations, and much more will be sold. A bake sale is planned, too, and kids will have fun making a gingerbread cookie ornament craft, and Santa will visit, too. Also, the museum's "A Red Ryder Christmas Story" exhibit continues, featuring memorabilia from the era and displays inspired by the 1983 film, A Christmas Story.

A Christmas Carol

  • Where:
  • When: 7:30 p.m. Saturday
  • Pricing: $30
  • Why Go: Enjoy a one-night-only dramatic reading of Charles Dickens' classic story, A Christmas Carol, brought to life by actors from Barefoot Productions. Besides the show guests will enjoy appetizers and treats from area eateries.

Ringing in the Season

  • Where:
  • When: 3 p.m. Sunday
  • Pricing: Free
  • Why Go: Enjoy an afternoon of classical and holiday music performed by the Detroit Handbell Ensemble. Registration required.

More events

  • Wayne County Lightfest, starting at 7651 N. Merriman, Westland, 7-10 p.m. nightly through Dec. 31 (closed Dec. 25), tour the Midwest's longest drive-through light display, $5 per car. 
  • Rock Show at Plymouth's ROC Bar, 8:45 p.m. Saturday; a holiday show featuring the SpokeDrunkie Band and The Walkin, Talkin, Toxins. Free.
  • Service of Lessons and Carols for Advent at , 4:30 p.m. Sunday, a traditional format of Scripture readings and songs. Free-will donations will be taken to benefit Gleaners.
