CPL Hosts Fifth
Annual Stuff the Truck Diaper Drive
Library Hopes To Set New Collection Record
CANTON,
MI— The countdown to the fifth annual Stuff
the Truck Diaper Drive has officially begun. Canton Public Library hosts
this year’s Diaper Drive on November 20 and 21 with hopes of doubling last
year’s donations. The library is counting on the generous members of the Canton
community, and surrounding Metro Detroit communities, to contribute to the
biggest diaper drive in Michigan. Last year, the library
collected 38,954 diapers in
two days and hopes to beat that total in 2013.
"We are thrilled that the
Canton Library is running a diaper drive for the 5th year in a row to support
our annual fall drive," said Marybeth Levine, Founder of the Detroit Area
Diaper Bank. "This year's Stuff the Truck event will be crucial in
helping us reach our bigger goal this fall, to collect 250,000 diapers by
Thanksgiving. The library has already helped bring in more than 100,000 diapers
to the Diaper Bank over the past four years, helping us help thousands of our
neighbors in need. We're asking the community to come out and support us again
this year and help us continue to make a difference with diapers across Metro
Detroit."

The
“Stuff the Truck” event will accept diapers during library business hours, 9:00
AM to 9:00 PM on Wednesday, November 20 and Thursday, November 21. The truck,
donated by the Hulett family, owners of Fat Chef in a Little Coat, will be
parked in the library lot and ready to accept donations until it is stuffed.
Diaper donations may be of any size or brand, baby through adult, even swim
diapers or other incontinent supplies.
Open packages of diapers are accepted, if labeled with size.
The Detroit Area Diaper Bank, a nonprofit charitable
organization, dispenses the diapers to SE Michigan partner agencies serving
people in need. The Detroit Area Diaper
Bank’s mission is to raise awareness about the large hole in the “safety net,”
which results in an unmet need for diapers in our community’s most vulnerable
populations — babies from low-income households, the elderly and people with
disabilities. The Detroit Area Diaper Bank strives to address this largely
unknown and unmet need by calling upon the community to engage in this effort
and donate or make financial donations to help reach the overall 250,000 diaper
goal.
