Smart Meters! Take Back Your Power!

‘TAKE BACK YOUR POWER’ – A new film
by Canadian filmmaker Josh del Sol.

 Plymouth, MI –
December 7th, 2013 – Michigan Stop Smart Meters is hosting this free
showing of the film, to be followed by discussion and a question and answer
period.  The film will focus on the
electric grid and smart electric, gas and water meters that are being rushed
into service nationwide and worldwide.
Here in southeastern Michigan DTE is installing electric smart meters
for its entire 2 million plus customers despite intense protest from many.  Michigan Stop Smart Meters has taken the
position that the new meters are harmful both to public health and to the privacy
of individual customers.  With compelling insight from insiders, government
representatives, whistle-blowers, lawyers, doctors and environmentalists, ‘Take
Back Your Power’ investigates claimed benefits and emerging risks of this
ubiquitous ‘smart’ grid program.   The film runs an hour and forty minutes, and the
showing will be followed by dividing the audience into smaller groups to
discuss the film and for audience members to discover how they, in turn, can
take back their own power.   Discussion leaders include David Sheldon, founder of the sponsoring
group, and Linda Kurtz, founder of the Ann Arbor based Smart Meter Education
Network. Mr. Sheldon holds a B.S. degree in physics and economics from Western
Michigan University and an MBA from the University of Chicago.  His group has sponsored a number of public
educational meetings on this topic both in this area and on the west side of
the state.  Ms. Kurtz
was a recent intervener in the opt-out hearings held by the Michigan Public
Service Commission and is currently an appellant in that case.  Through her group she has been organizing
grass roots resistance to the new meters. Both leaders bring knowledge of the
legal battles and how the climate of opinion has been radically transformed
over the last two years.  One of the
discussion topics will be the efforts of Michigan
State Representative Tom McMillin who has introduced, with 7 co-sponsors,
proposed legislation, HR 4315, to protect utility customers. The film showing and discussion will take place Saturday, December 7th, 2013 from 11:00 am– 2:00 pm at Plymouth District
Library, 223 South Main Street, Plymouth, MI.  Open to public. Free admission.  Light refreshments served.
