Plymouth-Canton Interfaith Community Outreach (ICO) receives recognition

On November 6th, the InterFaith Leadership Council of Metropolitan Detroit (IFLC) held its first annual Season of Gratitude awards dinner.  The dinner brought together approximately 500 faith representatives throughout southeastern Michigan.  Our Plymouth-Canton Interfaith community Outreach (ICO) group was one the groups recognized for our interfaith work with Plymouth and Canton members.  ICO was represented by the following faith groups at the dinner:  Geneva Presbyterian Church, Gurdwara Sahib Singh - Canton, Gurdwra Sahib Hidden Falls - Plymouth, Hindu Swayamsevak Sangh USA, Muslim Community of Western Suburbs (MCWS).  The Lutheran Tabernacle of Praise church is also a member of the ICO group.

Bringing together faiths and cultures in our community will continue to promote understanding and peace in our diversity.  Many of the youth in our community have community service hours as a requirement and we hold interfaith community service events to assist them with their requirements and also to establish friendships and understanding.  We have walked for the hungry, donated clothing to community members and the homeless, packed presents for children, and sponsored a free health clinic, among other events.

Our next interfaith event will be held at 6:30pm on January 24th at Geneva Presbyterian Church at 5835 Sheldon Road in Canton.  We will be having a youth and family night and discuss some upcoming community service events.  Please join us or email your questions to: plymouthcantonico@yahoo.com.
