Brave Students Needed to Guard the PCEP Colors!

Brave Students Needed to Guard the PCEP Colors!

The Plymouth-Canton Educational Park is holding auditions for the 2013 fall marching band production, and color guard performers are needed!

Color Guard, also known as the “sport of the arts,” has evolved from a primarily military activity to a creative performance. In the early days during the Civil War, a band would accompany soldiers on the battle field.  A member of the band would carry the "colors" meaning the American Flag.

Rest assured, the Plymouth-Canton Marching Band (PCMB) Color Guard won’t be going into battle but will instead be part of a theatrical and visually stunning show.  Color Guard members dance, spin flags and props, and perform alongside the 180-member marching band during the fall competition and football season.  PCMB is recognized as one of the premier high school bands in the country and the only band in the entire Nation comprised of students from three separate high schools.

Current eighth graders and other incoming students interested in joining the PCMB Color Guard are encouraged to audition. With a total school population of more than 6,000 students at the Plymouth-Canton Educational Park, joining the new 2013 Marching Band is great experience for new freshmen.   The band practices through the summer with camps, rehearsals and fun, so incoming freshmen start their first day of school at the Park with more than 200 new friends – just like my daughter did!

The Color Guard auditions will take place at the Plymouth High School Band Room. Plymouth High School is located at 8400 Beck Road in Canton.  Here are the dates and times of the upcoming auditions:

No experience is necessary but anyone who has dance experience will really enjoy being a part of this huge production.  Members of the color guard will perform in front of thousands of audience members throughout the season.   Parents who have questions should contact Jeffrey Cash, Color Guard Director, at your.jeffrey@gmail.com.

We’re lucky that our award-winning ensemble is now under the new direction of Mr. Jeffrey Cash.  Mr. Cash has extensive experience, having performed with the nation's top Color Guards, as well as with a globally-recognized performing group in Japan.  His choreography and teaching skills have been recognized around the world, having taught students throughout the United States, England, and Japan.  We’re excited to have Mr. Cash with us – and he’s excited about the future success of the PCMB Color Guard.

This season, we will take our show on the road to competitions throughout the state of Michigan and Ohio.  Our season will conclude at the Bands of America Grand National Championships at Lucas Oil Stadium in Indianapolis in November.  It’s a huge thrill to see your child perform on the field in front of thousands – and it’s a fantastic learning experience for the kids.  They put in long hours and a lot of hard work, but in the end it’s well worth it.  Marching Band provides learning experiences that will serve them well as adults.

On behalf of the Plymouth-Canton Marching Band, we hope you and your child – or children – will become part of our 2013 band family.
