We Need Your Help: The Marching Band Season May Be Over, but the Fundraising Must Continue

Proud Band Mom shares her perspective on the award-winning Plymouth-Canton Marching Band during her daughter's first year as a member.

On behalf of the Plymouth-Canton Marching Band, we’re asking the Plymouth-Canton community to support children’s musical education by coming to our annual Holiday Arts and Crafts Ensemble this Saturday, November 17, at Plymouth High School.

The marching band program is pay-to-play program so we do our best to keep participation fees as low as possible.  If we don’t conduct fundraisers throughout the year, such as the Holiday Arts and Crafts Ensemble, many students would not be able to participate.

In addition to fees, there are the expenses for the band. Except for the school buses, and the two directors hired by the school district, all the expenses to maintain the program are raised through student fees and fundraising. Band costs include the instruction from the many professional musicians, housing for out-of-state competitions, food to feed the students, props and uniforms used each season, and much, much more.

As parents, we willingly pay the fees, but if not for the fundraising, most of us couldn’t afford it.  We are hoping you can come out to the Ensemble with your family, friends and neighbors throughout the community.  The Plymouth-Canton Marching Band is a wonderful educational experience for the children.  In fact, those students who participate have on average higher grades than those who don’t.   I hope you can help us continue this wonderful experience for our children.

In addition to supporting the band, the Holiday Arts and Crafts Ensemble is a great way to kick-off your holiday shopping.  More than 100 exhibitors with handcrafted items will be on display at this artistic event. The juried show features jewelry, handmade clothing, soaps, artwork, sculptures, floral arrangements and other holiday related items. There will also be food, door prizes, a raffle, and entertainment by marching and concert band musicians throughout the day. Admission is $2 and strollers are welcome
