Tax Day Rally Held at Summit on the Park in Canton

CANTON, Mich. -- On Tuesday, April 15, as thousands of area retirees prepare to pay income taxes on their pensions, Democratic candidate for State Representative, Kristy Pagan, held a rally at Canton’s Summit on the Park.

At the rally, Kristy spoke about her plan to repeal the pension tax while reinstating the Earned Income Tax Credit and the Homestead Property Tax Credit to give Michigan’s working families a fighting chance. Following the rally, Kristy met with seniors to discuss the issues they care about most.

“Republicans in Lansing delivered a real blow to seniors by taxing their pensions while at the same time reducing the Earned Income Tax Credit and cutting the Homestead Property Tax Credit for our most vulnerable citizens,” said Kristy. “As State Representative, I will fight for our community’s seniors and retirees and protect the guarantee they had when saving for retirement.”

Democrat Kristy Pagan is running for the open 21st district house seat, being vacated by term-limited Representative Dian Slavens, to represent Canton, Belleville and Van Buren Township in the Michigan legislature.

Canton resident and retiree Elaine Thomas said, “I am a recent retiree and I know that Kristy will be a strong advocate in Lansing for seniors and retirees like me.  She will stand up for repealing the pension tax, as well as securing our retirement savings and lowering the cost of our health care. This is why I’m voting for Kristy.”
