Video: U-M Ice Carving Team Races the Clock in Timed Event

University of Michigan represents campus at Plymouth event, gears up for series of Ann Arbor showcases.

The University of Michigan Ice Carving Team, one of several local and regional ice-carving squads at in Plymouth this weekend, raced the clock Saturday in the Plymouth Ice Festival's three-hour carving event.

Team member Zach Pomerantz said because U-M lacks a culinary school, his team carves for fun and has participates in the Plymouth festival each year.

Pomerantz carved an eagle, complete with a massive wingspan, within the alotted three-hour time period.

On Feb. 10, the team will participate in the annual Ice Carving Extravaganza in Ann Arbor, then the following weekend will hold its first on-campus carving competition.
