Attack at Plymouth Township Kroger Leads to Attempted Murder Charge

An Oct. 4 attack at Kroger in Plymouth Township resulted in the hospitalization of an employee and a 48-year-old Westland woman facing attempted murder and other felony charges, the Plymouth Observer reported.

According to the Observer, a pipe-wielding assailant struck the employee, a 58-year-old St. Claire Shores woman, at least once in the head just before 11 a.m. on Oct. 4. The woman was treated at St. Mary Mercy Hospital in Livonia and released, the report said.

Plymouth Officer Matt Stoops confronted the attacker, who then dropped the pipe, Lt. Jamie Grabowski of the Plymouth police told the Observer. 

According to the report, the woman had been stocking shelves when the woman with the pipe accused the employee of killing her mother. 

The suspect in the attack, Angel Viar of Westland, appeared Friday in 35th District Court in Plymouth where she faced charges including one count of assault with intent to murder, one count of assault with intent to do great bodily harm and one count of assault with a dangerous weapon, the report said. The woman entered a not-guilty plea and a preliminary hearing is scheduled for Oct. 19.
