Boss Who Allegedly Fired Employee at Gunpoint Headed to Trial

The employer at a Canton gas station, who allegedly threatened his employee at gunpoint and fired him because he thought he was giving away food and lottery tickets, is headed to Wayne County Circuit Court to answer charges of assault with a dangerous weapon, felony firearm possession and a misdemeanor assault charge

Adel Yasser Berry, 25, of Osceola waived his right to a preliminary hearing in 35th District Court, the Observer & Eccentric reports. He has pleaded not guilty to the charges, but if convicted, he could spend more than six years on prison.

Berry’s  former employee, a 23-year-old Westland man, said his boss climbed up a ladder in the back office of the station, concealed a surveillance video camera and then threatened him with a handgun. His boss also allegedly punched him in the chest and ordered him out of the gas station.

The Westland man said the only item he had given away without charging a customer was a container of Muscle Milk he had given to his brother.

The man’s boss said that he had received harassing text messages from the former employee after firing for the alleged theft of the lottery tickets and food. He also denied covering the surveillance video cameras or having a handgun.
