Canton Man Falls Attempting to Flee; Caught Stealing Cough Medicine

Police said the man attempted to steal two bottles of cough medicine from the store.

A 32-year-old Canton man was arrested on retail fraud charges on Oct. 21 after attempting to steal cough medicine and flee the Plymouth Township Kmart, according to a police report. 

A Kmart loss prevention employee told police he saw the man conceal two bottles of Robitussin Gel Lozenges within an advertisement flyer he held in his hand, then walk pass all the cash registers and leave without paying, the report said.

The employee said he approached the man and identified himself as Kmart loss prevention and the man began to run to his car, but fell in the parking lot and was brought back into the store, the report said.

The man had abrasions above his left elbow from the fall, the report said. 

The two bottles of medicine totaled $13.18

According to the report, the man had a prior retail fraud in the third degree on his record.
