Canton Police Arrest 2 on Marijuana Charges

The following information was provided by the Canton Township Police Department. Arrests do not indicate convictions.

Canton Township Police approached a vehicle Jan. 21 with two occupants and a strong odor of what appeared to be marijuana shortly after finishing another drug-related call at Comfort Suites, 5700 N. Haggerty in Canton, according to a police report.

The driver and passenger, who told police they were staying at the Fairfield Inn next to the Comfort Suites, admitted to having smoked marijuana and told police none was left because the two had smoked it together, according to the report The driver showed police a yellow,red and silver pipe on his lap, the report indicated.

When police searched the passenger, they located a sandwich bag containing what appeared to be marijuana, the report indicated, and a glass pipe with black stripes.

Police searched the vehicle and found a bag with loose flakes of a substance that police believed to be marijuana, the report indicated, which the driver said belonged to him.

Police field-tested the substance found on the passenger, which proved to be 5.2 grams of marijuana, the report indicated. The substance belonging to the driver field-tested as 2.6 grams, the report indicated.

Police arrested both men on charges of violating the public health code with a Feb. 5 court date.
