Man Gives False ID to Police; Woman Arrested on Marijuana Charges

The following information was provided by the Canton Township Police Department. Arrests do not indicate convictions.

Canton Township Police were on patrol Dec. 6 at Michigan Avenue by Interstate 275 when officers stopped a vehicle after noticing an expired plate on a white van, according to a police report.

When police stopped the vehicle, police detected what smelled like marijuana, the report said. Police noticed a passenger smoking a cigarette in the rear of the van.

The passenger told police he didn’t have identification, and when he told police his name, he provided the name of someone revealed by police computer systems to be a 300-pound man with a neck tattoo. According to the report, the passenger did not have a tattoo on his neck.

Police asked the man how many warrants he had under his real name and he said one, then provided police his real identity, the report said.

Police found the man had three warrants out of Canton, Wayne County and Washtenaw County, according to the report.

Another passenger, a woman, had warrants for Washtenaw County on a larceny charge.

When police asked the woman to leave the vehicle, they noticed her reaching to obscure something in the vehicle, the report said.

When police searched the vehicle, they found a chrome pipe used for smoking marijuana near where the woman had reached, the report said.

The male passenger told police the woman pulled the pipe out of her purse, put four “roaches” in it and the two started smoking it, the report said.

Police arrested the woman on charges of possession of paraphernalia.
