Canton Police Find Marijuana, Scale Disguised as Cell Phone in Vehicle Search

Canton Township Police were on patrol Nov. 30 at Palmer and Lilley when they stopped a vehicle traveling westbound with a burned-out driver’s side headlight, according to a police report.

When police made contact with the driver, an officer smelled what he believed to be marijuana, the report said, and saw a plate in the back seat with what appeared to be marijuana residue.

The officer called for backup and a police dog to assist, the report said.

The driver turned over a baggie of the substance believed to be marijuana and Zig Zag-brand rolling papers to the officer, the report said.

When police searched the vehicle, an officer recovered what appeared to be a cell phone, the report said. However, the item actually was a scale with a false cover designed to look like a cell phone.

Police arrested the man on charges of marijuana possession, the report said. The substance field-tested positive as 1.7 grams of marijuana.
