Canton Police: Homeowner Shoots Intruder

Canton Police are investigating the shooting, which injured one in the 49000 block of Townsend in Canton.

is investigating a shooting in the 49000 block of Townsend just after noon Wednesday, near Saltz and Ridge roads, according to Canton Police Police Lt. Mark Schultz.

He said it appears two men were breaking into a home and the homeowner shot at least one suspect. The wounded suspect was taken to St. Joesph Medical Center in Ypsilanti, where his condition was unknown as of 2 p.m.

Police were on the scene and seeking the second suspect, Schultz said.

The homeowner was not injured, he said.

Schultz asked that people avoid the area of Ridge and Saltz roads and the 49000 block of Townsend during the police investigation.

He said police will release a statement shortly.
