Canton Police Respond to Hit-and-Run

Canton Township Police responded March 4 to a residence at the 45000 block of Claymore for a report of a hit-and-run accident, according to a police report.

The woman told police she looked out her front window and saw a white vehicle backing out of a driveway across the street at a high rate of speed and it appeared the vehicle struck her parked car, according to the report.

The woman told police she then saw the vehicle pull forward and the driver get out of the car to look at his rear bumper before leaving the scene, the report indicated.

Police observed scrape marks and a dent on the front left fender of the woman’s vehicle, and the front left tire had white paint on the rim, the report indicated.

A resident at the house across the street said the white vehicle, a 1995 Mercury, belongs to his son’s friend.

When police made contact with the owner of the Mercury, he told police he thought he had struck the parked car but did not see any damage to his vehicle and left for work without checking for damage on the parked vehicle.

Police cited the driver on charges of failing to use due care and caution, but the woman of the parked car said she simply wanted the driver to “learn his lesson” but did not wish to pursue charges for leaving the scene of an accident.
