Canton Ranks No. 360 in U.S. for Crime

Canton ranks below national average; Detroit, Flint rank third, fourth in nation.

In a new study by CQ Press, Canton Township ranks No. 360 in the nation for crime for 2010-2011.

According to the site, the statistics include "violent crimes of murder, rape, robbery, and aggravated assault and the property crimes of burglary, larceny-theft, motor vehicle theft, and arson."

According to comparison ratings provided with the rankings based on quantity and severity of crimes while factoring in the city's population — among other factors — the township scored 54.96 points below the national average.

Detroit and Flint, MI ranked third and fourth, respectively, in the U.S. for crime. Detroit's rate was 356.44 percent higher than the national average, while Flint's was 310.31 points above. St. Louis (381.62 points above national average) and Camden, NJ (373.33 points above), took the top two spots.

Nearby, Westland ranked No. 202 in the nation with a rate 17.38 points above the national average and Livonia ranked No. 311, 33.96 points below the national average.
