Canton Woman Killed While Crossing Haggerty Road

The unidentified woman died after being struck by a Jeep while walking her bike across Haggerty Road Thursday evening.

A 27-year-old Canton woman was killed Thursday evening while walking her bike across Haggerty Road near Michigan Avenue, according to a statement released by the Canton Police Department early Friday morning.

The accident happened just after 8 p.m., when the woman was struck by a Jeep headed southbound on Haggerty and attempting to turn west onto Michigan Avenue, police said. The Canton Fire Department rushed the women to St. Joseph Hospital in Ypsilanti, where she later died, police said.

Canton Police Sgt. Chad Baugh said the driver of the Jeep is a 49-year-old Canton woman.

No identities are being released as the police investigation continues. Police said neither alcohol nor drugs appear to be factors in the accident.
